The textbook for this course, Cambridge Latin Course, is by far the most popular in the UK and is used by over 90% of schools teaching Latin. Students will already have a copy of Book III which we began using in Part V of the course You will be supplied with Powerpoints illustrating each of the Cambridge stages covered in Part VI. Session 1: 21/1 Quiz on vocabulary for Stage 21. See LATIN 22 PowerPoint (including intro to passive verb forms) Reading of Vilbia and consolidation of perfect passive participles on pages 9-10. Perfect active participles (page 26). Homework: Prepare Modestus and amor omni vincit (scaena prīma).
Session 2 28/1 Reading Modestus and amor omnia vincit (scaena prīma). Revision of classroom vocabulary (if you have lost this document, download it from the top of http://linguae.weebly.com/courses.html Homework: Prepare amor omnia vincit (scaena secunda, scaena tertia). Read `About the language II: more about the genitive’ (p.31).
Session 3 11/2 Completing reading of amor vincit omnia. Word patterns (adjectives and adverbs) Practising the language (noun and adjective endings) - pgs.32 and 33.. Homework: Prepare for vocabulary test on Stage 22, look at LATIN 23
Session 4 18/2 Vocabulary quiz on Stage 22. Reading LATIN 23 Powerpoint. Pair/group translating of in thermīs I Revision of verb tenses using LATIN VERB.ppt. Homework: Write out translation of in thermīs II on alternate lines, prepare epistula Cephalī.
Session 5 25/2 Check translation of in thermīs II and hand in written version. Oral translation of epistula Cephalī. `About the language’ I (revision of particples) and II (plural of neuter nouns). Revision of noun endings (LATIN NOUNS). Homework: Prepare for vocabulary quiz on Stage 23 and read Britannia perdomita.
Session 6 4/3 Vocabulary quiz on Stage 23. Oral translation of Britannia perdomita View Powerpoint on Roman gods. `Practising the language’ (personal endings of verbs, use of perfect participles)(p.47). Homework: Written translation of in itinere (p.56).
Session 7 18/3 Look at Powerpoint LATIN 24, check translation of in itinere and oral translation of Quīntus cōnsilium capit. Cum and pluperfect subjunctive (pg. 60). Homework: Read Salvius cōnsilium cognōscit.
Session 8 25/3 Oral translation of Salvius cōnsilium cognōscit. Time clauses with cum and the imperfect subjunctive. Word patterns and practising the language (adjective forms, substitution of forms of pronoun is./ea/id for nouns). Prepare for quiz on Stage 24 vocabulary. Homework: Read LATIN 25 and Strythiō
