The textbook for this course, Cambridge Latin Course, is by far the most popular in the UK and is used by over 90% of schools teaching Latin as well as by many adult learners. Book 1 is now available at Dante and, unless you have already ordered your own copy separately, you should collect this and pay $180. In the meantime the online version of both Book I and Book II can be consulted on the Cambridge suite: https://www.clc.cambridgescp.com/online-textbooks The course is continuing on-line as one student is on Taiwan starting on-line and also because of the current Covid-19 situation. Arrangements for purchasing book II will be discussed in class.

Powerpoint for Stage 11 Reading passages Marcus et Quārtus and Sulla. Revision of present tense in all persons singular and plural. Reading Lūcius Spūrius Pompōniānus Verbs with the dative case and review of questions. Elections and election slogans. Homework: Look at introductory pictures for Stage 12.
Session 1 7/7 See introductory pictures for stage 12. Read tremōrēs and answer comprehension questions. Read ad urbem and ad vīllam. Imperfect and perfect in 1st (`I’, `we’) and 2nd. persons (`you’): -bam, bās, -bāmus, -bātis, ī, īstī, -imus, -istis), Homework: Prepare fīnis read through Language Information (pages 180 to 188) and note anything not understood.
Session 2 14/7 Read fīnis. Review of Language Information Practising the Language Powerpoint on Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae. Go through Britannia Rōmāna Powerpoint and introductory pictures for Book II, stage 13. Homework: Prepare trēs servī and coniūrātiō.
Session 3 21/7 Reading passages trēs servī and coniūrātiō. Irregular verbs possum, vōlō and nōlō with infinitives. Read Brēgāns and Servius fundum īnspicit Complete `Practising the Language’ (pp.14-15). Discuss farming in Roman Britain Homework: Look through LATIN 14 Powerpoint.

Session 5 4/8 Reading tripodes argenteī in Stage 14.. Agreement of adjectives with noun. Powerpoint LATIN 15 and brief review of history of Roman Britain including King Cogidubnus (pages 36-41 and 55-57). Reading ad aulam and caerimōnia. Relative pronoun (quī, quae, quod, quem, quam, cuius, cui) with examples on page 50 and in LATIN 15. Homework: Prepare passage lūdī fūnebrēs
Session 6 11/8 Vocab quiz on stage 15. Read passage lūdī fūnebrēs Revise present tenses of possum, volō, nōlō and introduce imperfect. Revise relative pronoun forms. Look at Powerpoint LATIN 16 and read passage Belimicus ultor. Further forms of relative pronoun (quōs, quās, quōrum, quibus) Homework: Prepare rēx spectāculum dat I and II
Session 7 18/8 Read rēx spectāculum dat I and II. Pluperfect tense (-eram, -erās, -erat, -erāmus, -erātis, -erant) and revision of other tenses. Read Quīntus dē sē. Introduction to Alexandria and Roman Egypt with Powerpoint LATIN 17. Homework: Look at LATIN 17 and notes on Alexandria (pages 84-91), prepare passage tumultus I.
Session 8 25/8 Complete looking at LATIN 17 and read tumultus I and II Introduction of genitive case. Read ad templum. Complete `Practising the Language’ (pg. 83). Revision of noun cases of declensions 1-3. Homework: Look at Powerpoint LATIN 18 and prepare taberna.
Session 9 1/9 Powerpoint LATIN 18 and reading taberna, in officīnā Eutychī. And Clēmēns tabernārius and discussion of gender and case in adjectives. Reading of prō tabernā Clēmentis. Introduction ot `Cult of Isis’ and `Egyptian cats’ Powerpoints. Homework: complete `Practising the language’ (pg.104).
